I have been working as a self taught acrylic artist for approximately 2 years now having used various other mediums previously (pastel, water colour, ink).  In 2014/15 I exhibited in Gallery 150 in Leamington Spa, Lytham in Lancashire, Milnethorpe in the Lake District and I produced 2 private commission pieces. In 2016 I am booked to exhibit 8 paintings at Gallery 23 in Lancaster over the summer, and also in Barton in Lancashire in September.  During this time I have sold approximately a dozen acrylic landscape and seascape paintings. I work using knives to create a semi abstract painting. I particularly like knife painting as I prefer the impression that bold shapes and contrasting/harmonious colours can give when applied loosely. I like to create striking pieces that catch the eye, as oppose to finer detail, building up a painting in layers. Using a 3D acrylic allows me to work quickly and to create thick textured layers. In order to prevent the matt finish of acrylic sometimes ‘deadening’ my work I put a final finish on all my work using an acrylic glaze.
