My work evolves. I am led by the brush marks and the way the paint falls on the canvas. I will build up layers of acrylic to create texture and depth or use it for washes. I find acrylic is very versatile. I like to be intuitive and improvise and respond accordingly. I want to keep away from harnessing an image too soon. However the end result is inevitably a landscape or seascape! I have been drawing and painting since 2000 but my working life as a graphic designer was in both print and television graphics. This was very confined. Working in news and current affairs for television required immediacy and spontaneity of ideas. Latterly the relationship with this became more apparent when I discovered the techniques of the painter Cecil Collins when drawing from life. These techniques have influenced my paintings, and I use them throughout. I joined West London Artists in 2008.
